Welcome

The holiday season has passed and we're hopeful that it was a healthy and happy one for you.  A new year has arrived and, with it, among other things, a renewed commitment to health and fitness.  Previously existing Gibson's members enter this season with a great fervor to maintain and exceed their current fitness status.  At the same time, Gibson's Gym also realizes a new class of recruits aimed at attaining an improved level of health and fitness.  To the former, we wish you continued success in your pursuit of fitness and thank you for your patronage.  To the latter, the "newbies," we would also like to thank you, but, more importantly, we would like to welcome you.  Welcome to Gibson's Gym.  We hope you find Gibson's a friendly, fitness-minded environment well-suited to help you reach your fitness goals.  Finally, to both groups of members: WORK HARD and BEST OF LUCK!

Don't Fear the Bug

MRSA Alert: An update on the state of cleanliness at Gibson's Gym.  In an effort to prevent the spread of MRSA and other less desirable afflictions of uncleanness, we have stepped up our efforts and, with the advice of the professionals, have adjusted our cleaning methodology.  With the help of Peter, Pam, Kathy, and the entire staff we will continue to ensure that a thorough cleaning of all the equipment is made on a very regular basis.  In addition, non-exercise equipment will also be maintained more thoroughly.  This includes restroom, locker room, and tanning areas.  Aside from doubling our physical efforts, we have also smartened up a bit with regard to the cleaning process.  We will continue to provide towels at the front desk for personal use, but, in an effort to minimize cross contamination, we have removed most of the towels previously found hanging about the gym.  Spray bottles remain and are filled with a lethal solution (that is, lethal against MRSA and other pathogens).  As for one of the most important steps you can take, be sure to wash your hands immediately following your workout session.  Wash thoroughly for 15 to 20 seconds being sure to work into a good lather.

Fear of Commitment

A gym membership is a lot like romance. Some jump in with both feet and commit for a long period of time, while others are more hesitant and like to keep everything short term. I am proud to say that Gibson’s Gym caters to either lifestyle. By offering everything from daily to three month up to one year memberships, we hope to accommodate your individual needs.  Keep in mind, gym memberships are also like romance with respect to rewards gained by length of commitment. The longer you join, the cheaper it gets and the more benefit you derive. Our single-year, paid-in-full membership is only $39 and change per month!

Product Spotlight

DaVinci Labs: Cholestsure

This combination product may be one of the most impressive nutraceuticals to come along in quite some time. Combining red rice yeast, policosinol, CoQ10, and other cardio protective nutrients, several gym members have reported dramatic reductions in their total cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

After less than desirable blood work results, one member in particular made a commitment to modify their diet and take Cholestsure daily. The results were very impressive.  Total cholesterol dropped 70 points and triglycerides were reduced by 150 units. Please feel free to stop by the desk and talk to Kevin if you and your physician may be interested.

Try Group Exercise:
It's Great!

As an employee of Gibson's Gym and one who is frequently stationed at the front desk, I am regularly called on to tour prospective members around the facility.  As I show these prospects the different areas of Gibson's I find myself compartmentalizing the Gym into three basic areas: the cardio areas, the strength training areas, and the group exercise area.  While this approach to organizing Gibson’s into three entities allows me to provide a simplified tour to an otherwise wide-eyed prospect, the truth is that all three entities work very well in concert.  Cardio?  Got that covered with 2+ rooms full of ellipticals, treadmills, bikes, and more.  Strength training is essential and we have a myriad of machines and free weights designed to provide you with the best strength training workouts possible.  So, how about group exercise?

Well, we are very proud to have been able to unveil our Winter 2008 Group Exercise Schedule.  This schedule comes replete with early morning spins and a solid cross- section of spin, yoga, pilates, kickboxing, and, our newest group exercise class, bootcamp (a high-intensity collection of current group exercise disciplines along with some never before seen ones).  Our 2008 Schedule also  provides more universal start times and minimizes confusion and maximizes excitement with a more consistent, energetic instructor pool.  So, for those of you unfamiliar to our group exercise program, now is a great time to try a class or two.  Classes are included as part of the membership services provided at Gibson's Gym and provide an exciting venue for cardiovascular activity.  Try a class today!

Diet Tip

Post-Holiday fitness enthusiasts worldwide are bound by one common goal: shed the extra pounds that the tasty holiday treats cloaked our bodies with. The biggest mistake dieters make is to simply not eat particular meals. Skipping meals leads to fluctuations in blood sugar and insulin levels which will ultimately lead to a slower metabolic environment in the body. Simply put, you have to eat small, frequent meals rich in protein, fiber, and good fats to shed the pounds. Below is a sample of a very simple, yet tasty, meal that can be prepared in very little time and is extremely diet friendly.  Enjoy!

Southwestern Chicken
6 oz. boneless chicken breast
¼ cup of black beans
½ cup of salsa
2 Tbs no-fat mozzarella cheese

Grill the chicken breast, and top with the salsa and the black beans. Sprinkle cheese on top and serve. You may eat a cup of broccoli and a salad with this to make a lunch or dinner.
