Biggest Loser '08 - Wrap Up
What a contest! This year's Biggest Loser was hotly contested right down to the wire!
Our female competitors pulled out all the stops. Over the course of the eight-week contest, Stella Soda, our third place finisher, lost 13.6 pounds for a 9.2% weight reduction. Coming in second place was Lois "I'm done" Magill who lost 20.4 pounds, or about 10.1% of her starting weight. Our top female finisher was Karen Kubinak, who lost 20.6 pounds and was down 12.3% from her initial weigh-in a mere 8 weeks prior.
As for our male competitors, these guys didn't hold anything back. Bill Dixon, the third place finisher, dropped 36.4 pounds, or about 13.5% of his initial weight. Then we had a tie. The man who lost the most weight was Dan "Speedstack" Bracey, who cut 41.8 pounds in 8 weeks. The greatest percentage weight loss went to Father Anthony who was aided by the power of the Holy Spirit and 2-hour spin sessions. Father Anthony finished down 35.5 pounds, a whopping 15.6% weight reduction.
A big round of applause goes out to all our contestants. We thank you for making this contest such a success for the third straight year. So many folks worked very hard this year and, although we have only honored the top three women and top three men, many more competitors should be very proud with their results. Congratulations!

Young Artists' Art Show
Calling All Young Artists:
Gibson's Gallery is planning a summer '08 exhibition to feature the art, poetry, and sculpture of young people, ages 18 and under. All participants, or their parents, must be members of Gibson's Gym.
The exhibit will include art and writing projects that were created independently or under supervision, either at home, at school, or at daycare.
All pieces must be ready to hang, either matted or framed, or free standing in the case of sculpture or three dimensional art objects.
Gallery coordinator, Peter Barnhart, would like to have all entrees at Gibson's Gym no later than July 1, 2008. All pieces that are ready for display will be included. For further information or assistance in presentation format see Peter at the front desk or leave a note with your phone number in his staff mailbox.
Thank You
On Saturday, May 10th Gibson's Gym hosted a blood drive in conjunction with the Keystone-Miller Blood Center. Expectations were high, as last year's blood drive was quite the success. But, in usual Gibson's Gym fashion, our members were determined to outdo last year's strong effort. And, they did just that. Donor numbers set a new benchmark. In addition to record donor numbers, we were forced to turn away about 20 - 25 potential donors due to insufficient capacity on the mobile.
On behalf of Gibson's Gym and the Keystone-Miller Blood Center, I would like to extend my thanks to all those that donated blood (or attempted to do so). For those of you who may have missed your chance this year, we plan on hosting this event annually in conjunction with our annual Open House.
"Did You Know?"
That "toned" look just about everyone seems to be seeking out these days is merely a result of low percentage body fat AND muscular development. Don't be misled to think that low weight, high reps will produce this effect. Cardio alone won't do it either. In fact, to get, for instance, "toned" abs, sets of 50, 100, or 150 sit-ups won't get you the look you desire. "Spot reduction", it too, is a myth ("toning" a particular body part by merely exercising that body part is scientifically ineffective). The best way to realize that "toned" look is to combine a sensible cardio routine with moderate amounts of higher-intensity, full-body strength training. For advice on setting up either a cardio workout and / or strength training program stop by and ask one of our trainers. Outside the gym, your best bet is to stick to a healthy, calorie-appropriate meal plan. For a complimentary one of those, see Kevin.

"Over the course of my years here at Gibson's Gym I have been privileged to be surrounded by a generally high-quality group of members.
